Worcestershire eligible for SEND deficit grant but funding concerns remain
A government grant is expected to cover most of the council’s eligible historic high-needs deficit, while the authority says longer-term pressures remain.
Worcestershire County Council says it is eligible for a government High Needs Stability Grant following approval of its Local SEND Reform Plan.
The council says the grant is designed to cover 90% of eligible Dedicated Schools Grant deficits built up to the end of the 2025/26 financial year. Its indicative allocation is £162.7 million, subject to audited figures.
According to the council, the payment is expected on 30 November 2026. The authority says it will remain responsible for the remaining 10% and that longer-term SEND funding pressures still need addressing.
This report attributes the financial figures and expectations to the council announcement; the final allocation may differ from the indicative amount.
