Residents will still be able to borrow thermal imaging cameras for free after management of the scheme transfers to Forest Community Energy.
A free thermal camera loan scheme in the Forest of Dean is moving from the district council to Forest Community Energy.
The scheme was launched in 2025 with partners including the AURORA Project and the South West Net Zero Hub. It lets households borrow thermal imaging cameras to identify areas where heat is escaping from their homes.
Images from the cameras can help residents spot possible improvements such as insulation, draught-proofing and upgrades to windows or doors. Forest Community Energy will now handle day-to-day operation of the service and provide help with interpreting thermal images.
The cameras will continue to be available free for loans of up to one week through participating libraries and other host venues. The council said the change is intended to keep the scheme accessible while drawing on the community group's local energy expertise.
