Cheltenham Borough Council is preparing to consider proposals for a new town council and revised parish boundaries later this month.
Cheltenham could move towards a new town council under recommendations due to go before borough councillors later this month.
Cheltenham Borough Council said the proposals follow a community governance review that began in May 2025 and looked at how parish councils are organised across the borough. The review was intended to assess whether local communities are fairly represented and whether boundaries continue to reflect the areas they serve.
The council said consultation feedback showed support for stronger local representation and for arrangements covering parts of Cheltenham that do not currently have parish-level governance. Full council is due to consider the recommendations on 19 October 2026.
The decision will not itself settle every detail of future local government in Gloucestershire, but it could reshape neighbourhood-level representation in Cheltenham. Residents can read the council's published material before the meeting.
