A 76-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a series of fires across Calne.

Wiltshire Police said five fires believed to have been deliberately started were reported within around three hours on Monday 10 August.

Two further fires were then reported on Tuesday, with police saying all seven incidents are believed to be connected.

Firefighters were called to incidents involving hedgerows, brambles and grassland in several areas, including Oxford Road, Redman Road, Stokes Croft and Swaddon Street.

Another fire was reported near the Knapp, while a larger incident in Low Lane burned around 100 metres of hedgerow.

No injuries were reported.

Police said information and vigilance from members of the public helped officers identify and detain a suspect.
